Kenny Johnston wins trophy outright in Orphir

ORPHIR ploughing match was held on Saturday (March 14) at Groundwater in Orphir by kind permission of James W Slater.
The soil was in excellent condition for ploughing. The slight drizzle never came to much and the wind was light.
Three competitors took part in the General Purpose section, four in the
One Way class, four also competed in the Reversible section and there
was one demonstrator.
Judges were Bruce Omand from Toab and Ian Munro from Kirkwall.
The prizereading was held at the Noust Bar.
Champion of the match, who won the prize for best ploughed rig and
winner of the RHASS Medal was David Slater, who was taking part in the
Reversible section.
David Slater won the special prizes for best finish, best start and
finish combined, and straightest ploughing in the Reversible section.
Best start went to Davy Linklater who was fourth in the Reversible class.
Runner-up in the Reversibles was Alistair Slater, with Geordie Scollay third.
In the General Purpose section, Kenny Johnston won the trophy outright.
He also won the special for best finish, and best start and finish
combined.
Runner-up in the General Purpose class was Andy Sinclair who also won the special for straightest ploughing.
Third place went to Michael Johnston who won the prize for best start in the General Purpose.
In the One Way section Ian Mackay took first place, winning the
specials for best finish, best start and finish combined and
straightest ploughing.
Ian Slater was second.
Third place went to John Slater who won the special for best start.
Adam Garriock was fourth and also won the cup for the youngest
competing ploughman.
The prize for best demonstrator was won by Cameron Linklater on behalf of Linklater Engineering.
