A PLANE which was flying between Kirkwall and
Inverness this morning, Thursday, was diverted to Wick after smoke was
reported inside the aircraft.
A spokesperson for
Loganair said that crew reported smoke in the cockpit and cabin. The
flight had previously been in Sumburgh before calling at Kirkwall.
The
pilots carried out emergency drills including shutting down the
aircraft's right-hand engine which was identified as the source of the
smoke. The aircraft was diverted to Wick where 13 passengers
disembarked safely.
A statement added: "The
emergency services attended the scene, as is routine in these
circumstances. Loganair takes the safety of its passengers and crew
very seriously and we will be carrying out a full inspection of the
aircraft to determine the cause of today's incident.
An
aircraft was dispatched from Aberdeen to Wick and to enable passengers
to continue their journey from there to fly to Inverness. They were
expected to arrive two hours behind schedule.
