Seven more acts confirmed for Orkney Folk Festival

TWO acts scheduled to appear at the 2010 Orkney Folk Festival recently triumphed at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Cara Dillon (pictured right) and Lau were amongst the award winners in
London, on February 1, with Cara's latest album, Hill of Thieves, named
Album of the Year, and Lau crowned Best Group for the third year
running.
A professional singer since she was just 14, Dillon's unique ability to
find a song's soul and imbue material with not only a profound
sweetness, but also poignancy and depth, has kept her in deservedly
high demand throughout the last decade.
Returning to Orkney after a four-year absence, Lau is the powerhouse
trio of Orcadian Kris Drever (guitar and vocals), Martin Green (piano
accordion) and Aidan O'Rourke (fiddle).
Their recent award adds to their impressive list of honours, including
the same trophy at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in both 2008 and 2009,
and, in November, Live Act of the Year at the 2009 Scots Trad Music
Awards.
Meanwhile, with just over three months to go until the 28th Orkney Folk
Festival, seven more visiting acts have been added to the world-class
line-up set to perform in the county in May.
Breabach, The Bevvy Sisters, Face the West, Shetland Heritage Fiddlers,
Scott Gardiner, R Cajun and the Zydeco Brothers and Leeshinat are the
latest names to be confirmed to appear alongside Orkney's home-grown
talent over the four day festival.
Festival Director, Bob Gibbon, said: "With just a few months to go,
things are definitely picking up pace behind the scenes, and we're
thrilled to now have seven more bands on board since we first announced
the line-up in December.
"The range of acts that we've programmed into this year's line-up
demonstrates, perhaps more than ever, the depth of the festival. There
really is something for everyone - from the acoustic Song Clubs for the
puritan, to the more lively gigs for those that like to dance about to
the music, and most things in between. Folk means different things to
different people, so we try, as best we can, to cater for them.
"We'll be announcing our concert programme in the next month or so,
which will detail who's playing where, and also the themes we have in
place for our Friday and Saturday night feature concerts."
So far, eighteen visiting and twelve Orkney-based acts are confirmed to
appear at the Orkney Folk Festival, which will be held from May 27-30
2010. The festival will once again be based in Stromness, but events
will also take place in Kirkwall, Deerness, Evie, Finstown, Harray,
Hoy, Rousay and Sanday.
Tickets will go on sale to patrons in April, with general booking
opening in May. To find out more visit the website:
