Rugby club learn potential cup opponents

ORKNEY Rugby Club may not yet have played their second round tie in the
Scottish Hydro Electric National Cup, but they now know their potential
opponents in the third and fourth rounds.
After last weekend's postponement, Orkney are set to play Ross
Sutherland RFC in their rescheduled second round match on Saturday,
December 20. Wednesday's third round draw has pitted the winners of
that tie away to Highland, currently ninth in National Leagues Division
2.
Netball festival planned for October

Netball Orkney's Festival of Netball tournament will take place on Saturday, October 18.
At the moment nine teams from all over Scotland are confirmed as
attending, along with another two teams that are yet to confirm.
St Ola win 2008 Parish Cup final

A 1-0 VICTORY that by no means told the story of the game gave St Ola their tenth Parish Cup win at Pickaquoy on Saturday night.
The men in green and grey had chances running into double figures in a match that they dominated for long spells.
Large crowd sees Rockworks official opening

HUNDREDS turned out in Holm on Friday evening for the grand opening of the Rockworks Playing Field.
Grant Duncan of Sportscotland performed the official unveiling of the
plaque in the centre circle of the pitch, with short speeches from Holm
FC president Freddie Tait, Alfie Flett of Holm Community Association,
and Tim Sharp of Balfour Beatty before the main event of the night -
Holm FC versus Ross County FC - kicked off.

ORKNEY'S Junior Inter-County squad will sail for home tonight, Friday,
without the Stuart Cup, after a 58-36 win for Shetland in this
afternoon's swimming sealed victory for the home team.

A WIN for Shetland by 119-75 in Thursday afternoon's Junior Inter-County athletics, followed by a narrow 31-29 win for the Orkney girls in the netball in the evening has put Shetland further ahead in the race for the Stuart Cup.
Shetland footballers pull back Stuart Cup points

FOLLOWING the positive start in the hockey earlier in the day, Orkney's
Junior Inter-County footballers have lost 5-1 in the football at
Gilbertson Park in Lerwick this evening, Wednesday.
This result, combined with Orkney's 4-1 victory in the hockey, means
Shetland holds an overnight lead of 30-25 in the contest for the Stuart
Cup.
Hockey girls get Orkney off to winning start

ORKNEY'S defence of the Stuart Cup started successfully this afternoon,
Wednesday, as the hockey girls won 4-1 at the Brae all-weather pitch.
It gives Orkney a points lead of 20-5 after the opening event.
Orkney opened the scoring with a Hetty Jenkins goal from a short corner
before Shetland equalised. However it was Hetty, again from a short
corner, who put Orkney ahead once again.
Emma Kirkpatrick then extended
Orkney's lead to 3-1 before Inga Kemp added a fourth - another from a
short corner - a couple of minutes from time.
16 teams to contest netball knockout

THE Royal Bank of Scotland Primary Knockout Tournament 2008 will be held at the Pickaquoy Centre tomorrow, Saturday, with 16 teams taking part.
Play in the Pickaquoy Centre Arena starts at 10.30am, with the final due to be played at 3pm.
Orkney RFC take revenge over Stirling students

A COUPLE of tries in each half of league game played in bitterly cold
conditions at Pickaquoy gave Orkney a 25-3 bonus point win over
visitors Stirling University on Saturday afternoon.
This was a game for the hardy and committed - and that was just the
spectators - as the sides battled it out wild wind, hail and rain for periods
of the 80 minutes.
