ORKNEY'S young sports teams are trailing Shetland after four of the
Junior Inter-County events have taken place in Lerwick today, Sunday.
Shetland won the swimming 63-31 in the morning, with many records
broken in an exciting series of races at the Clickimin Pool. Shetland
set most of the new times, but Morna Brown did get one record for
Orkney, setting a new time in the butterfly.
The hosts won the athletics 107-87, however Orkney athletes set 11 personal bests during the competition.

Orkney RFC miss out on chance to take title
09/05/2010 23:50:00
ORKNEY Rugby Club went down 28-10 in their away game to Strathmore on
Saturday afternoon, but crucially prevented the home side taking a
bonus point from the game.
This means that a win by any margin against bottom placed Kinross next
week will be enough to take the Scottish Hydro Caledonia Division 1
title.

A large travelling and exile support at the National Hockey Academy at
Peffermill backed Orkney as they played in their first ever district
cup final.
Orkney RFC can win league title on Saturday
05/05/2010 17:10:00
ORKNEY RFC can secure the league title in Caledonia Division 1 - and
promotion to National 3 - this weekend if they can beat
second-placed Strathmore RFC with a bonus point.
A Scottish Rugby spokesman confirmed this afternoon that the league
leaders need only one win and one bonus point from their two remaining
fixtures - away to Strathmore in Forfar on Saturday, an at home to
Kinross RFC on May 15. A win gives a team four points, with the extra bonus point secured through scoring four or more tries.
Kinross no-show prolongs Orkney RFC title chase
30/04/2010 11:35:00
ORKNEY RFC will have a longer wait to see if they can secure the
Caledonia League Division 1 title after 11th-place Kinross pulled out
of this weekend's fixture, which was due to precede the Orkney
Aggregates Sevens.
The non-appearance of the visitors means a revised schedule for
Saturday's events at Pickaquoy, as well dragging out the title chase
for another week, with all eyes now on the match away to second-place
Strathmore - the only team that could overhaul Orkney - on May 8. The
Kinross fixture, if it is needed, will now take place on May 15.
The Brin Cup semi final between Orkney's Second XV and Strathspey,
which was also due to take place at Pickaquoy this Saturday, will now
be played on May 8.
This Saturday's events will now kick off at 10.15am with the U14 Challenge match taking place on the infield pitch.

final with a 4-0 semi-final win over East Kilbride Ladies A in Aberdeen

the first time.
Orkney will now meet Kinross Ladies in the final at Peffermill, Edinburgh on Sunday, May 9.
Orkney score century as title chase heats up
25/04/2010 04:00:00
ORKNEY RFC won 100-3 at Pickaquoy on Saturday afternoon, eventually
running riot over a Stirling University side that had put up a decent
fight in the opening period of the match.
It was ten minutes into the fixture before the home side managed to get
out of their own half, but from then on they dominated the Scottish
Hydro Caledonia Division 1 contest.
Orkney were 31-0 up by half time - the bonus point was secured inside
the first half hour - but the real onslaught was saved until the second
half.
The visitors slotted a penalty in the second 40 minutes, but it was an
all Orkney affair in reality, with the home side entertaining their
200-strong support with a try-fest that emphasised Orkney's superior
ability and brought the final score to 100-3.
Orkney have another home league fixture next Saturday, May 1, against Kinross, ahead of the Orkney Aggregates Sevens tournament.
